Blue Blankets, Pink Hats (A Sonnet)

They gave us pink hats in January
Ignorance was blissful before we met
Now you are the burden that I carry
I have not seen the peaceful days just yet.

When I decided to leave you alone
I knew exactly what I had just done
But your story was never of my own
And depression in pairs is never fun.

I loved you like the doctor loves cancer
We shared more than the cage that is this skin
Still I have questions you cannot answer
Where does one end and the other begin?

You need to know I never hated you
I just preferred the blanket that was blue.
